Did you know that 70% of runners experience some type of injury each year – whether it’s something more minor or something requiring weeks away from the sport we love. Strength training offers so many benefits. I won’t list them all here, but as a runner, you should know that it can help mitigate injury in our high-impact sport. Additionally, strength training supports your performance and can be what stands between you and your next PR.
With so many different exercises and different types of strength work, you may feel a little lost or overwhelmed. What exercises should you do, how often, how heavy to lift, how many reps, and where within your training schedule should it be placed?
I will answer all these questions and more at the upcoming Running Specific Strength Clinics. Mark your calendar for March 8th or March 16th!
Dr. Brady Sandercock of Onward Physical Therapy is hosting this event for us. He is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and also a Strength and Conditioning coach. Brady is known for his expertise in Dry Needling, joint manipulations, soft tissue muscle therapy, and combining it with evidence-based strength training to get his clients better faster!
I am an RRCA Level 2, and VDOT certified distance running coach. I am also a personal trainer certified through the American Council on Exercise. I have been coaching and strength training athletes through my own business – Strengthen Your Stride, since 2016. Both running and strength training are my passion! I am a seasoned and competitive runner. My proudest achievement is qualifying for the Olympic Marathon Trials in 2020 and placing 3rd Masters in the process at Chicago – a World Marathon Major.
Brady and I are partnering to bring this event to you! I think our backgrounds make us a pretty awesome team! Brady will kick things off as he discusses recovery tools and soft tissue work. Then I will lead us through a running-specific strength workout. Come fueled up and ready for a great workout! Workout clothes, shoes, and water are recommended.
